Customs regulations

Green or red corridor

When leaving Ukraine, you have to go through customs control and choose either green or or red corridor.


Choose a green corridor in case:

  • you move through the customs border of Ukraine objects that are not a subject to mandatory written declaration, or to customs and other charges, taxes, and on the movement of which restrictions or limitations are not set;
  • you do not have cash equivalent to over €10,000;
  • you transport goods up to € 1000 (by air transportation) or € 500 (by surface and sea transport);
  • you do not move goods, carriage of which is prohibited or limited (weapons, ammunition, explosives, narcotic, psychotropic, poisonous, strong substances, radioactive materials, cultural values, objects of flora and fauna, their parts and products derived from them, high-frequency electronic devices).

Choose a red corridor in case:

  • you move through the customs border of Ukraine goods that are subject to mandatory declaration (including those subject to customs and other charges, and on the movement of which restrictions or limitations are set).
  • You get to choose, whether to take advantage of green or red corridor. A customs service employee has the right to check if you have chosen the right corridor, unpack your baggage and involve technical controls. At the request of the authorized person of the customs, you must present the contents of his baggage.

Currency export

  • Subject to oral declaration — carriage of cash of the equivalent to less than € 10,000 by any person, regardless of age.
  • Subject to written declaration (in case the cash exceeds allowed under the oral declaration procedure value) — carriage of cash of the equivalent to over € 10,000 by any person, regardless of age ( supported by documents ensuring that the money was withdrawn from a bank account in an accredited bank or similar financial institution).

In case cash exceeds the equivalent to € 10,000 and was previously imported, the customs import declaration and supporting documents from a bank or other financial institution are to be the basis for cash export.


Instruction on the procedure for the transfer of cash and bank metals through the customs border of Ukraine, approved by the decision of the Board of the National Bank of Ukraine on May 27, 2008 No. 148 and registered with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on June 11, 2008 under No. 520/15211.


Export of food and goods from Ukraine

  • Goods

Goods of total invoice value of less than €10,000 (with the exception of goods for which the export duty has been established and/or to which state bodies the documents necessary for the execution of customs clearance are issued).


  • Alcohol and tobacco

It is prohibited to export alcoholic beverages and tobacco products outside the customs territory of Ukraine for citizens who has not reached the age of 18.


Citizens who have reached the age of 18 can take alcoholic beverages and tobacco products per person once every 24 hours:

  • 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars, 250 grams of tobacco or these items in a set, total weight of which does not exceed 250 grams;
  • 5 liters of beer, 2 liters of wine, 1 liters of hard liquors (with alcoholic content over 22%).

List of objects, that can be classified as personal belongings:

  • clothes, underwear, shoes of personal use — with signs of having been in use;
  • personal hygiene items and cosmetics, sufficient for one person during the trip;
  • eau de toilette, 0,5 litres or parfums, 100 ml;
  • personal jewelry, including jewelry made of precious metals and gems — with signs of having been in use;
  • individual writing implements and office supplies;
  • individual medical products designed to support vital activities and control health — with signs of having been in use;
  • baby stroller;
  • wheelchair;
  • medicines carried or sent across the border of Ukraine in order and in volumes determined by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine;
  • in the number of 1: camera, one video camera with a reasonable number of photo-, video, cine films and additional accessories, portable projector and accessories together with a reasonable number of slides and/or films; binocular; portable TV set; portable sound reproducing system with a reasonable number of films, records, CDs;
  • in the number of 2: laptops, peripheral equipment and accessories; cell (mobile) phones; portable music instruments; e-reader devices; calculators; watches;
  • sports equipment – bicycle, fishing rod, set of mountain climbing equipment, scuba-diving set, ski set, tennis set, surfboard, windsurfing board, set of golf equipment, other analogical equipment sufficient for one person;
  • special baby food;
  • other objects designed to satisfy daily vital needs of a person in the volumes determined by the law of Ukraine.

Currency import

  • Subject to oral declaration — carriage of cash of the equivalent to less than € 10,000 by any person, regardless of age.
  • Subject to written declaration (in case cash exceeds allowed under the oral declaration procedure value) — carriage of cash of the equivalent to over € 10,000 by any person, regardless of age ( supported by documents ensuring that the money was withdrawn from a bank account in an accredited bank or similar financial institution).

Instruction on the procedure for the transfer of cash and bank metals through the customs border of Ukraine, approved by the decision of the Board of the National Bank of Ukraine on May 27, 2008 No. 148 and registered with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on June 11, 2008 under No. 520/15211.

The conversion of cash amounts into euro is carried out at the official exchange rate of hryvnia to the euro, established by the National Bank, or at the cross rate established in accordance with the official exchange rate of hryvnia to the corresponding foreign currency at the date of crossing the customs border of Ukraine or on the day of cash transfer.


Import of food and goods to Ukraine

The procedure for importing alcohol and tobacco products into Ukraine is similar to the procedure of such products for export.

In addition, you can import to the country without tax:

  • products of a total invoice value less than € 200;

in manufacturer's packaging for retail trade — 1 package up to 2 kg of each item; without packing — up to 2 kg of each name; indivisible product ready for use — 1 pcs each name

  • products of a total invoice value less than € 500; (by surface and sea transport) and less than € 1000 (by air transportation) and of total weight less than 50 kg.

If you are transporting goods of total value higher than mentioned above, you must fill in a declaration: up to € 1000 — declaration for citizens; more than € 1000 euros — cargo customs declaration.

  • Items of cultural values are imported if they are not internationally wanted and you have documents confirming your ownership. Exported — by special permits.
  • Medicines are imported provided there are medical certificates and prescriptions. And also in the amount required for a course of treatment.
  • Fire-arms — by Ministry of Interior of Ukraine permit.

The movement of narcotic drugs is prohibited.
